Have to say I love how the eggs my Bielefelder lays look! The variable speckles are so fun! I was doing deviled eggs today and noticed a very freckled one. I’m also impressed with how many eggs Nettie lays. She’s laid 100 since she started on 11/6! 🤯
The only place I’ve seen them is Spring Creek Heritage Farms in Bellingham, Wa. But they are very very expensive!!!! Other than that you could import from Canada??? But importation with quarantine and all might be just as expensive as buying from Spring Creek. 🤷🏼♀️
My Bielefelder, Nettie, laid her first egg a few days ago and has laid every day since! She laid at exactly 7 months, so textbook late developer like all the info on the breed says. I honestly wasn’t expecting her to lay until spring lol.
I haven’t had Plymouth Rocks, but Bielefelders are sloooooow to mature lol. My girl is 27 weeks and hasn’t laid, and that is when Velee’s pullet laid her first egg as she posted above. I like to watch homesteading YouTube channels, and KC Farms really touts how good they are at foraging and how...
Oh wow! I just idly bookmarked the site, and didn't look to close at the prices. The Silver Bielefelders and the Le Grand are crazy expensive, wow!
Still keeping them in mind for the next time I need chicks, just won't be either of those two breeds lol.
I kinda noticed that too. My EE was significantly bigger, and my Australorp was tied in size with Bielefelder until maybe 15 weeks or so. I didn’t weigh them, just eyeballing them.
