    What disease is this?

In my experience, demodectic mange really isn’t that wet. It can be really really nasty and oozy, but it’s more like a massive crusty hotspot than the grease from your ducks. Not sure if that makes sense or not. Also makes them smell terrible, but if it’s extremely disgusting then there’s...

    What disease is this?

It’s talking about mammals. It’s commonly seen in raccoons, coyotes, deer populations, etc. anything that nurses it’s young, mostly sickly mammals with lowered immune systems. The only bird specific mite I am aware of is the one that causes scaly legs. Cheyletellia prefers hairy mammals but...

    What disease is this?

I don’t think birds can even get demodex. It’s generally transferred from mom to nursing puppies, I don’t see how a duck could get it and I don’t think they would stay long if it did.

    What disease is this?

I’ve never had to deal with cheyletiella before, just demodex. If it is mange, then it would be cheyletiella, as demodex isn’t contagious and the dandruff + crawling sensations are telltale signs of cheyletiella. Apparently cheyletiella is visible to the naked eye, unlike most mange mites, but I...

    What disease is this?

Oh wow! Can’t believe I didn’t think of mange! That makes perfect sense, I’m so used to seeing demodex on dogs but I guess this is how it would show on a duck. You’d think the vet would’ve noticed if she sent samples to a lab.. did she do a skin scraping or did she just sample the mucus stuff...

Don’t buy any animals from any place if you get that twist in your gut! I think everyone learns that lesson the hard way sooner or later. Glad they are doing well lol. I’m sure the cats aren’t as happy at their recovery.

That sucks, I’m sorry. :/ I don’t know enough about duck diseases to be of any real use to you. But I’m sorry this has been put on you, don’t give up yet, as disheartening and frustrating as this is.

    What disease is this?

Hmm you mentioned skin flakes? Starting to sound like a really nasty fungal infection that they picked up from the guy’s farm. Might be worth rubbing some anti-fungal cream on them after their baths.

Oh geez. He sounds like a dirtbag. All part of the learning curve, right? A warm washcloth over their heads might help to soften the gunk if it’s really stiff, before using soap to lather. I have a dog that gets hotspots and when they ooze the yeasty mucus-like stuff and it dries, it’s very...

    What disease is this?

I would think if it was an ear problem the ear would look more irritated. But I imagine it would definitely hurt to get water into a painful ear. It might also be hurting them if it’s some yucky oil/grease and the water is causing it to leak into their eyes? Just throwing ideas out there. Or...

    What disease is this?

When you get pictures, take one of their oil glands too. I think it’s more likely to be something unnatural though.. looks like my cat who used to sleep in car engines and get motor oil and dirt caked in her face. Maybe a picture of where they’re staying could jog some ideas?
