I realized I’ve mentioned her a lot but still haven’t shown her 😅 this is Cayenne. My red sex link, I’ve had her for 3 years this spring! Super friendly. I’ve even taught her how to stay on a longboard with me and she’s been on mountain hikes with me as well(second picture was from years ago)
Woah can the darkness of the eggs actually withstand that many different breeds being bred in over time? That is amazing! I never knew it was that much of a dominant gene
Lol that’s also a red sex link! So basically they’re both sex linked? Now I just need to figure out WHAT sex link they are 🤦 I really want to know where those dark eggs are coming from
she looks a lot more like she comes from one of the darker red breeds. She has the same type of patterning as my RIR RIW Red sex link but she’s a LOT darker
I was thinking about that! Isa browns are a type of red sex link 😅 I believe they’re RIW NHR crosses. But would they produce dark brown eggs? I’ve only ever had a RIW RIR Red sex link
She lays tan eggs with dark brown speckles all over it, almost 3 so they could’ve been darker before! (Her comb was bigger, it appears to have been frostbitten?) I did think she resembled a cream legbar mix!
Oh I hope that’s what she is!! I really want dark eggs. I plan to add a few pure Marans to my flock this year for it. She’s already 3 though so her eggs could be faded 😫
Found them! It says they are “ a cross between a Maran, Barred Plymouth Rock and Rhode Island White” which would explain the black feathers (she has a couple of those, forgot to mention) and the lack of leg feathers! Actually they look a lot like my other mystery hen Rocky…only difference is...
Bluebells as in praire Bluebell eggers? PBE are araucana x white leghorn. Maran crosses for me have always had at least two awkward feathers sticking out
