Snakes move around a lot! It might be way out in the backyard in the morning and by afternoon be sitting by your door in the garage. I have a snake den at the front part of my house/yard. From there they go all over the yard, in the trees, in the garage (when they could get in there), etc. The...
Around my place I am the wildlife removal service. lol I have a zero tolerance policy on venomous snakes. They have to die if I see them and can get to them.
Ahh yes, those GMO's. Now that is scary! I don't think I want to eat grain or an animal that has ate grain that insects won't even touch! Good for you on doing your part on keeping them somewhat accountable.
We have the black and the gray rat snakes here. I believve most people call the black...
It sounds like you are doing it all in a good way, better than I am! I really wish there was more "homegrown" meat, milk, eggs, veggies and fruit available and at prices regular people can afford. It is really a shame how the animals that die to give us our meat, milk and eggs are treated (and...
I hate to ruin your day but you are probably believing a lot of lies. The government has assisted the commercial meat and egg industries in painting a pretty picture that the public is falling for. Actually the public doesn't want to know! The average person wants somebody else to raise the...
The only way to keep snakes out of the chickens is to use hardware cloth (1/2" X 1/2") and plug all the other holes. Snakes can climb very well so the top of the coop/run has to be made snake-proof too.
Can I ask... are you a vegetarian?
Here's a great snake thread. Be sure to read post number 126.

Yep that is a black rat snake (aka: chicken snake). You are lucky to have the Speckled King. They have the reputation as the king snake that is the most agressive about killing other snakes. I wish I had about half a dozen of those here around my house! The reason you see some that are speckled...
Don't be fooled into thinking that your dog will always see the snake before it is in striking range. I had a dog get bit by a copperhead while in his kennel. It got him in his throat and he almost died. A knot swelled up and was hanging from his throat the size of a grapefruit. It was cutting...
I can't get over states where it is against the law to kill snakes. Amazing! Anyhow, it is the *king snakes* that kill other snakes (and each other), not what most people call a "black snake" which is actually the black rat snake. Rat snakes will actually den up with copperheads. I have seen a...
I have several years of hands on experience with snakes too. Never been bitten but I know several people who have and they won't agree with you that is does not hurt. Even from a non-venomous bite you can end up picking small snake teeth out of your skin for several days - that could lead to an...
I like your snakes. I actually have a couple pet snakes too. And I do have a respect for snakes, to a point. I have a huge population of snakes here at my house. If it is not venomous I haven't killed it in many years. But my respect for them only goes to a certain point - people come first then...
Unless the eggs were cool too long you might could have taken them out of the snake and got them to hatch. Don't know, somebody ought to try that and see, preferably not me. lol That would be a story to tell your grandkids! lol
Do you have "pet" snakes? If you do what do you feed them? Mice? Rats? Rabbits? There are people who think just as much of mice, rats and rabbits that do not want you killing them. They will tell you how cruel it is just just let a snake kill it and eat it! Do you tamper with that "PART OF LIFE"?
It has the markings of a Yellow Rat Snake which is from your area but it doesn't look yellow. It is probably a Yellow Rat crossed with a Gray Rat Snake. It is the "chicken snake" local for your area. They are great climbers!
