    End of day 22?

Perfectly fine. :) just mark them the next time you candle them. It just makes it easier when you’re trying to compare how much bigger the air cell is the next time. 👍

    End of day 22?

Yep, on the fat/widest end of the egg. Some eggs are oddly shaped and it’s hard to tell which end is which, but usually if you candle them you can find it. If you can see them, mark them. :) Sometimes fresh eggs aren’t super obvious. In that case, just mark them the next time you candle. Always...

    End of day 22?

Most definitely easier. Lol. oh awesome, both those breeds are so beautiful! Fingers crossed for a great hatch. :) My only suggestions are to mark your air cells in pencil on the shell so it’s easier to keep track of where they are on what day, and take notes of what works for your incubators...

    End of day 22?

Don’t fill the trough completely. Measure a bit of water with a syringe or a measuring cup, add it, and wait for a bit and see what it’s reading. :) I usually will add, wait maybe 1/2 an hour, check it, and go from there. Add a bit more if it’s still low, or know that I need to add a bit less if...

    End of day 22?

Didn’t get a notification for your last post, sorry. Always better to clarify! Lol. Perfect. I would drop the humidity if you can to around 30-35%; if it’s running at 40% with no water and the air cells look like they should for day 7, just monitor and make sure it stays somewhere between the...

    End of day 22?

Lol, sorry, I didn’t mean it like that. xD I tend to go into too much detail and most of the time nobody wants that. Haha! ask a simple question and all that. 🤣 I’m just one of those weirdos that likes to go pull up scientific studies and papers after someone asks me a question. ( I once spent...

    End of day 22?

There’s some good explanations in the weight loss guide and plenty in other threads on here. :P I like to know the mechanics and cause and effect behind things where possible. Lol. Too high humidity means too big a chick and too small an air cell, and possibly too much fluid still in the egg...

    End of day 22?

It will depend on where your air cells are at. But it certainly would be possible and easily corrected at this early stage. What’s it running at now? I would shoot for 30-35% at this point and you can adjust it from there based on what the air cells look like in a few days, day 10 or 14. There’s...

    End of day 22?

So sorry she didn’t make it! You did nothing wrong with investigating. I highly doubt she would ever have been able to pip positioned like that. And with that much unabsorbed yolk, there was definitely something gone wrong for her to be at that stage at day 22/23. I’ve never had one survive that...

    End of day 22?

Their head is usually tucked up under their right wing, kind of upside down with the beak positioned towards the fat end where the air cell is. Pulled a random illustration from google to give you an idea of proper positioning. :) I totally did not realize you’re across the pond. Haha. Grab a...

    End of day 22?

I can see some small vessels in a few spots but nothing huge. Can you see the beak at all when it moves? Often they’ll kind of crane their neck back and push. It looks like there’s some “egg junk” at the middle/bottom, so it could be positioned a little bit funny in there. That stuff should be...

    End of day 22?

Hard to say. It may also still quit on you, but movement is good! You can visualize where things are better if you put something on the membrane. It’ll give you an idea if it’s positioned correctly. Olive oil works too, just doesn’t last as long. I’ve also used eye lubricant in a pinch. Just...

    End of day 22?

Ah ok. That’s ok, it’s better to know and not have tossed a good egg. Keep the humidity up, and apply the ointment or oil whenever it looks like it’s starting to dry out. I usually stretched it about 6-8 hours if I could keep the humidity high enough but you may need to apply more often. There’s...

    End of day 22?

That’s the one that you opened that looked developed and just posted, or another one? Leave it in. :) you can put coconut oil or antibiotic ointment (without pain relief) on the membrane to keep it from drying out. Thats what you want to see! (ETA the movement I mean) (Which egg is that from...

    End of day 22?

Here’s a “good” egg for comparison. I assisted this sebright that was malpositioned, it was trying its darnedest to pip through that membrane but it was so tangled up with its legs it couldn’t reach. But see how tight to the chick the membrane is, and the veins? (And of course, it was kicking...

    End of day 22?

That ones no good either. :( better to know than toss a good egg though!

    End of day 22?

By this stage most of the fluid should be gone from around the chick. They’re usually pretty tight up against the membrane and it’s contoured to them. (I think there are pictures of “normal” ones on the assisted hatching guide.) Toss that one for sure.
  19. Trisseh

    End of day 22?

Doesn’t look good. No veining I can see and seems to have quite a bit of fluid in there behind the membrane. ETA: I’m guessing no movement? (Just in case, there’s been weirder things I’ve seen lol)
  20. Trisseh

    End of day 22?

No, there shouldn’t be any liquid if you open the air cell; since that’s where the chick is supposed to break into to start breathing air, that’s all that’s in there. Open up a big enough hole to look into. If you were starting to assist an almost on time egg, you could put a safety hole in and...
