Nobody else has hatched. We're pretty sure they are done.
I think everyone understands about the "accidental death" of the chick we opened and that raising quail means learning as we go.
We hopefully have enough to just breed our own to hatch. When is the latest in the year we want to hatch...
Well.... we did a major "Oops".
We candled the other day and thought they were all dead. Tonight my husband decided to do an "eggtopsy" and the first few were just yokes..... but then he cracked an ALIVE chick 😢😭
It looked almost ready to hatch too. It only stayed alive for a few minutes but I...
Nothing new to report yet. The one "alive" one left in the incubator hasn't pipped yet... which makes me think it won't. We're now headed into day 20.
I'm trying to decide if I should buy more and try again or wait to breed the ones that lived and try again. It's kind of now or August because...
So I candled the last 14 eggs and I'm sad to sad that only 1 showed any kind of movement inside. 😔 Most you could see something dark and an air sac but nothing moving. I'm kind of sad. We left them all in... but really only think that 1 might make it now.
Yes, we have 1.
We've kept it around 99.5 temp and it was 35% humidity for the first 14 days and has been between 65-70% humidity since lock down. It keeps going up each time a chick hatches.
Great. Thank you for the videos. They help a lot. I'm going to try candling them and see what I can find out. We candled before lock down and all but 4 looked viable then, hopefully they are just slow to hatch.
Do I need to do anything special when I candle... like do it in a humid room etc.... so I don't mess them up in the meantime 😜
This is our first hatch.... sorry for all the questions.
I was planning on candeling or doing a float test after day 21... does that sound right?
Is it normal for so many to not have even pipped while others have hatched this far in?
As of this morning we have 10 hatched total (16 unhatched). We are just starting Day 19.... so hopefully we get a few more. (I'm hoping for at least 15 total). The 16 left have not pipped externally... I hope that's not a bad sign.
Colors so far
4- Tibetan
2- Tuxedo (I'm guessing Rosetta...
I woke up this morning (day 17) with 5 external pips (our of 26 eggs)... but literally NOTHING has happened since. I am anxious for SOMETHING to happen... anything really. Is it normal for them to break through and then stop?
Is it normal for only 5 to be pipped and 21 with nothing yet?
I am...
