So sorry to hear of the loss of one of the chicks. I am glad the others are doing well.
Does the sighting of the female mean Tooshtoosh may be ready to leave his chicks and mate again?
I find this thread so interesting. Thank you for taking the time to answer my questions. I can't wait to hear the next installment in the lives of these Emus, especially now that I am getting a better understanding of there lives.
I will be following this thread, as I have been. :hugs
It seems, like many of us this year, Tooshtoosh's chicks are "grown up" and ready to go out on their own. I wish them a happy Emu life.
So if Tooshtoosh is sitting on a new clutch of eggs, how long will it take them to hatch? And then will they stay with him for about a year as these did? How...
2 years, wow that's a long time.
So you have been watching this extended family for about 13 years. This is really a long term project. Will you be writing a book about the Emu family adventures? Or is this a study, so that we will have a better understanding of Emu culture (as they have done...
This is going to be exciting!
I wonder if Tooshtoosh has a lady in mind already, will he have to fight for her, or is she hiding in the wings, waiting for him.
Does he have a nest area, like could he keep the one he was using with the last chicks?
This feels like a cross between a soap opera and...
I wonder if he is ready for the chicks to be on their own? I know with my chickens, the mom will be the chicks' protector for months. They often are taught to roost with mom on one of the upper rails and still try to all get under her.
One year we had a broody with 8 chicks and another broody...
This has turned out to be so interesting and such a learning experience. I was telling my hubby about Tooshtoosh this afternoon. I love how you give updates that are truly interesting in just a short blurb.
Whenever you feel like giving an up date, I will be reading. :love
Thank you for...
I think Tooshtoosh is spoiling those chicks, he needs to man those chicks up, before he has a mess of 5 grown Emus who won't leave the house or get a job. :lau :love
Will Tooshtoosh mate and create a new family while he still has chicks following him around?
Or will he wait until the other three chicks "go bush" before he resumes finding a new mate?
