You have been lucky! And I am glad for you. However after describing the large possum with the cockerel appetizer, I would be way more careful in the future. The possums know where the chicken dinners are served now. :eek:
Sometimes you will not see another one for a few weeks they are territorial. So now you have opened a spot for a possum or raccoon to move in.
Try putting the trap out for a few nights in a couple of weeks. Good luck

If it was an extremely large possum or other large animal, the closure gate may have left room for the animal to hold the door open with it's tail or back end and been able to squeeze out. Try hanging the food container from the top of the trap on the inside. And only open the container part...
possums are carriers of worms, which can be transmitted to your chickens. Even if the possum is just walking through your yard, if it stops to potty, you will have the worms in your yard. There to be eaten by your chickens and infest them, to getting on your feet or shoes to be tracked into...
