Both of mine make horrible noises, most of the time. I have a big blanket in front and behind mine because I keep expecting the little plastic arm piece to break and dump my whole Bator. I've heard of it happening too many times.

The advance should have the humidity pump. You can't keep humidity up with the pump?? Without the pump, I used thin quilt batting with my last hatch, but you can use a thick paper towel (like Viva) or even a piece of an old t-shirt, lay it on the bottom, drape it through the water wells. I...

Honestly, I see pros and cons both ways also, but hand turning is out for me, so that makes it easier for me not to fret over. Obviously I wouldn't chuck any egg, I was surprised when one of my worst detached ones even started! I think, had I not turned for a couple of days, it might have...

Viva is a good one! That's a great option. Shipped eggs are always a gamble, as I'm sure you know. But I still always incubate vertically, and lay them down to hatch. After probably 10+ sets of shipped eggs, i feel it all depends on how well they are packed, and how hard the postal workers are...

Works either way, but I always do mine vertically. Always have good hatch rates (unless they were shipped eggs that the post office played soccer with..lol)

I always use my turner because I'm not able to hand turn often enough. With shipped eggs, I usually sit it in the turner, i just don't plug the turner in for a day or two, depending on how bad the air cells look. Hopefully your eggs won't be too bad. I have 2 Octagon 20s. One has a pump, the...

Do you have the auto turner and/or humidity pump? I use the rails and the foam padding. Space the rails just wider than the egg, and let the foam hold them. There are a few tips that could benefit you if you don't have the humidity pump and live in a drier area. Not gonna bother typing if you...

After seeing you mention this on another thread, I draped a piece of that stuff across the top of mine, and just secured it with a strip of scotch tape across it.... just to see if I'd like it.... and I LOVE it! Will mount it better once I empty the bator, but it has helped tremendously! (both...

Awesome Yorkshire! I just uploaded a pic when I saw yours. Thanks I do the exact same with mine. Sometimes don't even use the rail, just the foam.

Ruby, I dont understand why they only include the foam strips with the pump, but it came with porous foam strips that fit in the rails and hold the eggs nicely. I'm sure you could make some out of something. I worried about circulation, but I've packed it full and I can't imagine not having...

Is it possible that the lid is not closing completely on the side nearest the row that is reading lower temp? Maybe it is getting more air flow somehow and keeping it cooler?

I spray mine with some antibacterial stuff, wipe it out, then use my sink sprayer to rinse it real good, just spraying inside the base. (and all over the kitchen, of course lol)

Blooie, I can attest to the fact that Ruby did tons of research on shipped eggs, and if I ever do shipped eggs, I'll be following her advice to a "T"

x2! Super! I wasn't going to mention names if you didn't! I'm tickled for you!!! I didn't take it as bashing! All feedback is good in my book, not just the good stuff. Not everyone has great things to say, but everyone has the right to express their opinion! Please do let us know...

I have the Advance EX with the pump, and live where its plenty humid (too much so in the summer ugh!) so its not a problem for me, but I could see it as a great suggestion for some in dryer climates like yourself.

Are these the call eggs that you were going to order before, or ones from a friend? That's exciting! Never thought about moisture loss from under the lid. Mine seems like it seals well, but you could be on to something!
