I'm not going to drill a hole into the waterer's reservoir, there is already one in there, where the water flows from the reservoir into the dish.
Agreed, cutting and splicing an electric cord is not a recommended practice, but i am pretty experienced in doing that. Just ordered the 5W model...

I retired my metal waterer after less than one year because it started to rust everywhere - we have very acidic water here in WV which apparently is not good for the zinc coating.
And yet i cannot use my plastic waterers with a heated base...
