Raising chicks in brooder outside-trouble 😢

The time has come to integrate! Littles and bigs together, first day! Most of the adults are fine with the chicks, just the bottom rung hen chases them. The chicks are learning fast, which one to avoid. The run back into their safe brooder. You can see the 4x4 holes in the panel on the left.

No, it isn’t that. It is an outdoor thermometer that keeps the min/max temperature reading. It is lying as close to the wall in the cave as it will stay. Sometimes there’s poop on it.

I looked at my shavings, and there are lots of fine pieces in there, too. So, instead, I used straw. So far they are doing great with it. It is on their cave roof anyway, and they climbed on there today.

Thank you ! I will change the bedding right away then, if that can be a problem. I have larger shavings, or I could put towels under them. Which one would be better?

Raising chicks in brooder outside-trouble 😢

My first time raising baby chicks. I got 4 Wyandottes, 1 Orpington (both mixed genders) and 2 Norwegian Jaerhon females. And the two Jaerhons have died in the first two days. 😞 I am panicking now, and don’t know if they are warm enough, too warm or too cold. I am using a Mama heating cave and...
