The time has come to integrate!

Most of the adults are fine with the chicks, just the bottom rung hen chases them. The chicks are learning fast, which one to avoid. The run back into their safe brooder. You can see the 4x4 holes in the panel on the left.
My brooder coop is within the existing chicken coop. I just have the bottom 2-3 feet covered and the rest is open to the coop (fencing and HC).

I also have a container full of grit in there, that they had so far ignored. This morning the chicks were up when I came to bring the food (I take it out at night). They were in the grit bowl, eating it! Yay! Now hopefully the bits of bedding will leave their systems and all will be good. 🤞

No, it isn’t that. It is an outdoor thermometer that keeps the min/max temperature reading. It is lying as close to the wall in the cave as it will stay. Sometimes there’s poop on it.
I looked at my shavings, and there are lots of fine pieces in there, too. So, instead, I used straw. So far they are doing great with it. It is on their cave roof anyway, and they climbed on there today.

I will change the bedding right away then, if that can be a problem. I have larger shavings, or I could put towels under them.
Which one would be better?
My first time raising baby chicks. I got 4 Wyandottes, 1 Orpington (both mixed genders) and 2 Norwegian Jaerhon females.
And the two Jaerhons have died in the first two days. 😞
