Yes, that makes perfect sense. An unhealthy fox will likely die anyway, and can carry diseases. Killing the healthy living ones though, will only allow other predators into the territory, which will then kill your chickens if they are living in a coop that isn't safe, and secure.

You don't need a fence, just put up electric fencing on your coop, wrap it on hardware cloth, or anything that will stop it. I can help you with predator proofing, jus need to know how it is getting in.
