    Chicken Breed Focus - Campine

The more I look at him, the more I really like this little fellow. He is the epitome of a (what?) two week old Campine. That comb announces his gender loud and proud. His tail is low and will hopefully only come up a little as he matures. His stance screams, "You have to admit, I'm...

    Chicken Breed Focus - Campine

You know, they are not bad to boss the other breeds, but they won't be bossed, either. If a bully bird tries to pick on them, they just run off to some other adventure, or fly away. They fly real well.

    Chicken Breed Focus - Campine

Yes, this one is absolutely, beyond a doubt, a male. I am so lucky to love my breed so much that I don't even mind when they are not hens. I don't get letdown when I discover they are actually roosters. My disappointment is when I have to send lots of beautiful roosters to be processed...

Dries, that breed might explain the random white feathers that those bird you posted a whilago had. Maybe?

The do look like Campines, and probably are, but they could be Fayoumi or Brakels. I really can't see what I need to see to make an educated guess, but my gut feeling is that the two in the front facing left are males.

Hey, now! Sharol, I only wanted more Campine breeders, I didn't tell you to put all those other eggs in there, although having empty egg cups in a running incubator does seem a waste.... and more eggs does help stabilize the temperature and that improves the chances for more to hatch, and...

I know that is a good thing, Sharol, but everyone else may not......Wanna tell them what you are cooking in there?

    Chicken Breed Focus - Campine

Please do, and if you have any questions feel free to PM me here any time. I took 14 Campines to the Chattahoochee Valley Poultry Show in Newnan, GA this past weekend. Of course, mine were the only ones there - with one exception ..... sorta'. A young lady from my state that is very active...

The black tail feathers is a common problem with the Campines in the USA. I have been working on mine and have a few that are coming along nicely.

    Chicken Breed Focus - Campine

Thanks, you two! What we really need is more serious breeders. I am thrilled that the breed is getting more much-needed (and deserved) attention these days, but that will not bring them back. Campines, especially the silvers, were once one of the most common birds in the US. They were...

Okay, now I know why my ears were burning! I raise Silver Campines and have for about five years. I wish (there I go again) that I had more pics, but here is my Avatar pic that everyone loves.
