Good luck. So far I haven't had any new problems, but it's only been a few days. I'm afraid that the chickens are scattering grain underneath the coop that rats could still get to, so I have to move my feeder. But there haven't been any new tunnels yet.
Sorry, I should have mentioned...the rat kill was only a result of the whole chicken coop and run being revamped to prevent rat access to food and to remove rat habitat. The removal of the debris under which the rats were living is what caused the rat to start running around in broad daylight...
Well, I just hired my neighbor and his buddy to go out there, put hardware cloth under the coop, and remove all the composting weeds that the rats were using as habitat. As they were working, I let the dogs hang out in the back and Max, my lab/dachshund mix, just tore a rat up! It's a proud...
Oh, that might work. My concern isn't my dogs eating a dead rat though...it's them eating the poison itself. Those dogs can get into anything no matter what or where it is. But I might still give that a shot. The hardware cloth is a must now though. I'll do that anyway. And remove all...

Here is what you see under the trap. The rat dug right underneath it to get into...
Just read on a vermin hole identification site: Rats are secretive and rarely seen during the day. If you see them during daylight hours, it means you have a lot of rats on the premises.
This is sounding really bad. I suppose I could stick a hose into one of the holes and turn the faucet on...
Well, I'm at the start of a new problem with my chickens! I swear, two trouble-free years and now this year has been full of problems!
I started noticing a network of tunnels the other day, and couldn't remember when the first time I saw the tunnel was. Did I see a tunnel in August and...
