Even in the same/similar climates folks do things differently.
I'd bet your management techniques will change once full thaw rolls around in spring and you shovel all that damp bedding out of the coop.
Are you using wood chippings from tree trimmers or kiln dried shavings?

The freezing can be an issue, most frozen ones pop off vinyl liner on mine.
I only use a thin layer of PDZ and sift the entire contents daily.
Poops go into buckets for buddy with compost pile.
Has worked for me for 6 years.

Tho I sift the pdz daily, freezing is definitely something to deal with here, can't always get it all off.
