    Araucana thread anyone?

We gotta see pics of the backs! I would *guess* -- just guess -- that the first one will be some version of duckwing, the second will be blue, and the third will be black. But only time will tell for sure!

    Araucana thread anyone?

Quote: Araucana eggs very often have low fertility and hatchability. It's one of the "charms" of the breed. It *is* a bad sign if you had eggs exploding that quickly. However, I suppose it's possible that an egg sent to you at 7 days post-laying might do that....I don't really know!

    Araucana thread anyone?

Quote: Araucanas often have poor fertility, anyway. That's why I don't like to sell araucana eggs. I just hatched my first batch of araucana eggs for this year. Mind you, these are my very own eggs. They are from a pen containing four hens and one roo. I set about 12 eggs. ONE of the eggs was...

    Araucana thread anyone?

Quote: It's soooooooooort of like frizzle....but different, too. Here's a rough idea of how it works out: tufted x tufted = 1/4 chicks dead in shell, 1/2 chicks tufted, 1/4 chicks clean face tufted x clean =1/2 chicks tufted, 1/2 chicks clean face So if I bred 12 chicks from a tufted x...

    Araucana thread anyone?

Quote: In order to be shown, an araucana must have ear tufts. However, because of the way the tuft gene works, it's impossible to produce 100% of birds with tufts. The tufting gene is lethal when a bird has two copies of it, so all tufted araucanas are heterozygous for the trait. So you will...
