DAY 0! Eggs arrived, four smashed, three sticky with smashed egg and five clean. Have put the five clean ones under penny, the three gently wiped sticky ones in the incubator. Gives us a hatching date of the 8th October 2015!

Tell me about it! I'd stick to broody hens too, just wish penny had a big enough butt to sit on them all so I didn't need it lol

Darn this incubator stuff is tricky. Trying to find a containeri can put in there to better help regulate the humidity. If I use the channels it came with I get about 75% humidity. A 1/4 cup measuring cup with water gives me about 60%. Having trouble finding something just that little bit...

Got my incubator again. It's the same one I borrowed last time, a janoel 24. Got a week and a bit to get it working properly this time. It was way out with both what it said the temp and humidity was last time so I've pulled my hygrometer out of my hermit crab tank and will be working off it's...

Lol. No idea :-). Never got my chickens drunk before lol. Just you won't get any help with your question on this thread. as it's not related to your subject There is a thread called something like processing day support. Try a search for that, you will probably have more luck asking on that...

I plan to be a lot more organised this time :-). Hubby is picking up the incubator this week so I'll get it all set up and running properly BEFORE the eggs arrive. It was so out with it's temp and humidity readings last time I need a good week to work out what's what with it. Will only put six...

HATCHING EGGS TAKE 2! So spring is in the air again and so we have decided to try for that blue and black australorp again. I emailed the lady we got our eggs off last year and she has orders up to the 15th. I've asked her to put us in the queue, just waiting to hear back. Our little silkie...

Thanks guys. We think she's a cutie too. Really good personality too, was so hard to get those photos cause she kept running up to me and getting too close so the lens wouldn't focus :-) She is now the biggest in the flock, can't wait to see if she is a good layer. The girls are sort of...

I plan to do it again next spring but will be doing it more prepared. I really do think that had a lot to do with our lack of success. I still need my blue and black girls to complete the trio :-) Next time I will borrow the incubator and have it all set up ready, and I will put half the eggs...

Thanks guys. The weird noise was probably because pullets this age should not be crying for their mums lol. She even sat in the nest box today and 'helped' mum lay an egg :-)

Oh and meant to ask, will this be her final colour or will it change a bit and possible get more dark flecks after her first molt. I know my faverolles darkened slightly so was curious.

Young Pepper will be 14 weeks I believe on Tuesday so thought I better update her baby scrapbook :-) She seems to have an aversion to turning side on so I can get a decent shot showing her in profile view. I did manage to get one with "mum" from the side though. She is still following mum...

Hi :). She is doing beautifully. Sweetest natured little thing, I think she might even be quieter than my faverolles. She loves her tummy scratched and even they draw the line at that lol. She seems to have totally skipped that awkward adolescent age, just keeps looking lovely :) Her only...

Doing the happy dance :-) I'm excited to see how SHE grows out. :). Just beginning to get the odd little dark spot on the grey now. I think it's going to be a really pretty chicken! Fingers crossed it's the start of a run of girls for everyone lol

Here we go, Pepper's (as peep has now been renamed) six week old family snaps. It has such a cute personality (well except for the bit where it prefers to peck hands rather than what is in them lol) that I will be devastated if it turns out to be a boy. I tried to get the comb from as many...

I just wish it would grow a darn tail lol. The kids have started calling it a shim lol It is very quiet but not at all personality wise like our other rooster was. It's a more gentle friendly where he was a bit up and in your face friendly lol I just loooove the colour though, boy or girl...

Feeling a little bummed, last couple of days the comb seems to be going more pink than it was before and still not much of a tail to speak of This is peep at 4 weeks and 2 days. Only ray of hope is that this is also a 4 wk old male australorp from another thread and it has much redder...
