    Sebastopols. A cash crop?

I'm a staunch believer in grazing, water play and exercise. I panicked too many times when I saw a youngster struggling to keep it's wing up at 2-3 months old, because of the heavy flights full of blood coming in. If they are allowed to splash and run and play, it corrects itself most of the...

    Sebastopols. A cash crop?

Quote: I wish there was a color chart for Sebs-ALTHOUGH I believe there are many subtle variations within color types. I'm also finding my birds can have a subtle color change over the seasons. The lavender is very nice.

Is this a buff? It has lavender and buff feathers. They are longer now, the pic is from almost two weeks ago-I'll get new pics on soon.

Jennifer and all, Here is a pic of my gander Zen (his butt), I have yet to see this color-he is blue-dk violet splash, depending on the season. This is a last year fall pic. He has grown long cape like flight feathers this season. Will post new pics when he feathers out.

Quote: Congrats 100th person! And to answer your ? it depends! Some people who raise Sebs retire some, or the babies they keep for breeders aren't what they want to keep come fall. They may be perfectly nice animals, but they may have too many of one color or feather type, etc.... Try to find...

    Sebastopols. A cash crop?

Mrs. Turbo : I grew out 13 of my goslings last year and I only had took 2 I would take to a show with me...... It is a very slow process to build a nice flock. They take up a lot of room and eat a lot of feed in the fall and winter. This year I hatched 6 goslings so far out of my...

    Sebastopols. A cash crop?

The last I will say about this on this post. I know for a fact many of us that are just starting out in Sebs keep just a few pairs that we fancy, and sell (or place) the ones we feel we can't use for breeding for a very reasonable price, and have also placed some of the ones we did not want...

    Sebastopols. A cash crop?

Many breeds of geese have a head that melts into their neck. The Seb should have a rounder head, showing larger than it's neck-however, the neck should be thick and able to be carried erect (stove pipe). I'm not sure if that means side view only. Most frontal views of geese show a narrow width...

    Sebastopols. A cash crop?

My Zeena has only half long, thick scapular feathers and paired to a gander from Holderreads (which is smoothed breasted, and he helped me chose) has produced very curly and very cool colors. The problem with buying Sebs is that if you want the fun of raising a gosling or two you have to gamble...

    Sebastopols. A cash crop?

Bravo City Chicker! One must look BEYOND the feathers. Like fur in dogs, They are the focal point in Sebs and are a main consideration, but the rest of the bird must be considered. Most of the top breeders are keeping both smooth breasted, all curly, AND YES, a few almost smooth-especially in...
