Does anyone know the differences from the Savage B17F and the B17FV? All I can tell is that the B17F comes with factory installed sights while the B17FV does not and the B17FV cost about $70 more. I can't believe they'd charge $70 more for just not including sights. What am I missing...

What would you all recommend for a first time long gun for property protection and if shtf, on a budget?

I inherited it from my father, I really know nothing about it besides what little I found on google. I believe it was a gift to my father when he was a kid.
