    Free range unattended?

Wow! That is a lot of great info and very enlightening! I do lock mine up at night in their coop. They already come back and get in in the evening. They are still new at it though so maybe as they get more adventurous that will change. I think no matter what you do, you will always have a...

    Free range unattended?

I got 20 this Spring and brooded them. They are fast growing dual purpose birds so they are quite large already. They are full grown at 12 weeks so we're almost there. They seem so happy out there. They are taking dirt baths and even coming and knocking on the door for me to come out and sit...

    Free range unattended?

We have mostly nocturnal predators as well with the exception of hawks/owls etc... I don't think I can guarantee their safety so I'll just have to do what I can and accept the risks. I'll be sad but it is nature!

    Free range unattended?

We don't have a garden yet. We are a work in progress. I do plan on having one soon so that is definitely something that I have to consider. Thank you for your input. I have a lot of thinking to do!

    Free range unattended?

Hi Mary! Thanks for all the info. We do have bears here so we don't put food in the coop ever and remove it from the run every night. I am so sorry about your experiences. This is my first time with chickens free ranging so lots to learn. I'll need to toughen up I'm sure! Jenn

    Free range unattended?

Thank you for your tips! I have a lot to think about. We don't have a lot of stuff to hide under except on the outskirts so if I did a fence, they would have no where to hide from aerial attacks but with no fence, we have lots from the bushes. Ugh!! This chicken ownership can be stressful!

    Free range unattended?

Mine don't go too far yet. They are also a fast growing bird so they are larger than some others and full grown at 12 weeks so we're almost there.

    Free range unattended?

We have a flock of 19 that are just over 7 weeks. They are Dixie Rainbows so they are very fast growing birds and quite large. We do have a coop with a large fly pen attached. I leave the pen door open so they come and go as they please. If we go riding, we go for a couple hours and then we come...

    Free range unattended?

So you think they are still too young to free range?

    Free range unattended?

Thank you! I know this is a risk and it breaks my heart to think that one of my girls may get attacked. I also want them happy though so I am trying to find the best solution all around. We live in a very rural area with lots of predators so I know it's just a matter of time. I am looking into...

    Free range unattended?

Hello all. I have 7 week old chickens that I just started letting free range this weekend. They are doing really well so far but I was wondering if you can leave them unattended while free ranging? My husband and I like to take the UTV out on the trails but not sure if it's ok to leave them out...
