    Nice set-up! Mine go in the coop with a heat lamp or two, depending on outside temps (we live in MN). For the first couple of weeks, I have a plastic garden border thing in an oval shape so they don't get piled up in the corners. I don't monitor the temps, exactly. I just watch their behavior...

    Mine are in the coop from day 1. Have your coop ready first, so you don't have to rush to get it done. You can have it done the way you want it that way, instead of cobbling something together in a hurry.

    Since you don't know yet if you're buying or building, or how long it will be or when you're going to have a place to keep them, I would strongly suggest waiting until you get all that figured out and finished first. Then move on to the chickens. Don't get chicks until you have your coop built...
