How in the world did these chicks have these colors?

Update: the cockerel is now fully feathered And we ended up having some accidental chicks hatching at the moment, most likely fathered by him. One already hatched who I’m 100% sure is his. (Note the lavender/mauve spots)

How in the world did these chicks have these colors?

Another update: we lost the younger chick from an eagle, but the two oldest are doing great. One is a cockerel who is now breeding and crowing, and the other a very friendly pullet. The cockerel has gotten a lot of brown-ish leakage while the pullet got none.

How in the world did these chicks have these colors?

Hm...With that I’m thinking the mom must have splash or blue parent(s), since the father of these chicks is also out of the black Cochin.

How in the world did these chicks have these colors?

I agree. I haven’t a clue how they got these colors. Mom is a black as when I breed her with a white roo, we only get black / whites

How in the world did these chicks have these colors?

I can see where everybody is thinking Mauve here as the photos seem like they’re nearly a chocolate/gray kind of color. I’ll try to get better pictures that shows that they don’t look nearly cream from the naked eye.

I can definitely see where you think that, and honestly they could be. Guess we’ll just have to wait and see!

How in the world did these chicks have these colors?

Well about 3 1/2 weeks ago, we had two Cochin mixes hatch. Both were white with slight black markings on the wings. Well today I just got back from a mini vacation for Thanksgiving which I was on for only a week, and found these two have gotten what looks like Lavender or splash! I’m extremely...
