Thanks. Yeah, I'm mostly concerned about temperament. Can you tell this early how they'll turn out? From what some people have suggested it sounds like they can change quite a bit as they mature. But you are right, I am probably overthinking it My gut has been saying the second cockerel from...
Sorry if I've offended you, but the two cockerels I'm trying to choose between are both very healthy. And I thought I made it clear I want to keep the dominant one. But as they are still young and the flock dynamic is still changing, my question was at what age can I be sure he will stay...
A small update for all of you who helped me with loads of great advice. As I mentioned, I decided to keep them for now and see how it turns out. The roo that I liked but was at the bottom of the pecking order has worked his way to the top. The other two roos were constantly picking fights and...
As I was reading your coment I was busy thinking the exact same thing. I was about to reply that I live in Africa just before I saw that you realised it too. The feed store I go to is an agricultural supply store, so it's mostly production farms buying from them. There are very very few backyard...
Thanks. There's so many things to consider I'm glad I asked. I like this option, I didn't think of that. I don't know where I would find a roo like that in my area though. I live in a small town where it's very difficult to get anything other that day old chicks. The only time I've seen chickens...
Wow, thanks for taking the time to give such comprehensive answers I had one rooster before, but he was the only one in the flock and his father was very friendly. I guess the only reason I'm even worried about them being aggressive towards people is because a restaurant we go to has a touch...
Thanks. I do ignore him, and he definitely moves out of my way for now. I don't absolutely need a rooster, so if the one I keep becomes a problem later I can get rid of him.
I'm just worried about them hurting each other now, so I was wondering which one would be the best bet. I don't have...
.
The friendly one gets lonely, so he follows me around when I'm outside, or hangs out with the rabbits when I'm not. But he is shy too, he runs up to see what I'm doing but doesn't come too close, and if I walk towards him he moves away.
Thanks. How long should I separate them? I don't have an extra coop, but I could lock the two roos in the coop while the others are out free ranging during the day.
I have 2 New Hampshire cockerels and 1 Koekoek cockerel. The are 10 weeks old now and starting to fight eachother more aggressively. The one is almost permanently wondering around on his own because the other two keep chasing him off. I was hoping to wait until they were a little older to see...
