Oh that's great news! The pecking order stuff is hard to watch...especially when the underdog has managed to be special to you. Ariel is like my Miss Kitty.
We just got home...lots of snow here to deal with tomorrow. Everyone did great and I'm betting they will miss my niece lol. I think she...
Yay! Good news :)
Will be great to start to get things back to normal for both of you. Hopefully she integrates well now that she feels better. I gave Sharon and Phoebe a chance to go back in with everyone before we left on vacation. Watched them outside together for an hour and things seemed...
Oh I really hope she's going to be ok.
We haven't left yet! Head out tomorrow. Can't wait for a few days of warmth and a vacation from these needy dogs lol. Our dollar is horrible right now so I def want be shopping down there!
Good luck at the vets. Fingers crossed.
Ya would be best for Ariel to get reacquainted with her sisters first. Will give her a chance to form buddies again before having to figure out a whole new pecking order. If the chickens can see each other through the pen it will go a long way to integrating everyone. I tried to let my new guys...
Roosters are good at guarding. I'm sure she will be able to adapt. The hen I had that had a "foggy" eye I think saw a bit out of it. She would free range just wasn't as brave as the others. And the head hen always seemed to keep tabs on her. Like she knew she needed a bit of help sometimes...
Well Ariel is the luckiest chicken ever to have ended up at your house! Thank God you took her in. Sure sounds like it wasn't going to just "go away"!
Did they think she can still see out of that eye? I don't get how someone could sell chickens in the condition you got those girls. I feel bad...
Shaking head could be lice/mites. Do you think you got them all? I know mites hang around the vent because it's moist...just wondering if the lice got in her eye. But I would think if that cream was going to work it would have by now. Well it's official...crazy chicken lady title lol. I took...
Oh the poor girl. I'm not liking the looks of the bumpiness all around the rim of that eye. But I have no idea what it is. That cloudiness to her eye though...I think it may be blind. I had one girl that I believe got pecked as a chick and her eye had that appearance. She did fine but didn't...
Can you get a couple better pictures taken now that she's in a cage? I'm really not knowledgeable in medicines for different treatments.
@Wyorp Rock
@Eggcessive
Any ideas?
Yes I believe it could explain her eye. I've never actually had lice but have dealt with mites many times. Sevin dust is what I use because it's very fast acting. You will need to treat everyone and the coop. Hopefully that explains her eye problem, her thirst and her odd behaviour. Be really...
Aww she looks pretty comfy in there! Has her eye got any better or worse since you first noticed it? Have you checked her for mites/lice? Just guessing that they could be attracted to that furry little hat she wears and irritated her eye. I agree that if you're not seeing improvement in a couple...
Des I agree with PeepersMama. Keep her away from the rest until you are sure of what's going on. If it does end up being something more serious it could spread quickly. If nothing else it will give her a chance for rest and all the food and water she can handle. Also allows you to check what...
:( sorry to read this.
How's she doing? I agree with you I think there's something more going on than just the eye. Is she lowest in pecking order? Wondering if she's being bullied and kept from food/roost. Could have taken a bad peck to the eye. Fingers crossed for you. She's a pretty girl.
