looks like pox. you must clean that yellow staff but make sure that the chick does not swallow any of it. put some 2% iodine on scabs and you can put a drop inside the mouth. I gave mine black peppercorns and it helped to dry the scabs. as your chick is small crack the peppercorn and mix with...
whatever it is you must clean that yellow stuff from the mouth. use q tips than disinfect with 2% iodine/betadine . a better pic would help more. it seems their is a scab on the eye which would mean pox.
glad you found a solution!
if your chicks are with broody they might have good health as they are not cold. just give them some boiled eggs 2-3 times per week till they get better. eggs are packed with vitamins and minerals. green vegetables as well.
unfortunately we can do nothing to stop spreading pox. but at least once it is over they will never get it again.
betadine I buy here is 2%. it seems different countries have different products.
I had some problems with my laptop so I could not check this thread earlier.
betadine is safe, you can put it 2-3 times a day.
bubbly eye is from the scabs, just put any antibiotic ointment in their eyes and they will be fine. as I live in a mosquito haven my chickens were expected to end up...
don't dilute betadine.
I gave whole black peppercorns to my chicks and it helped them to clear the scabs within few days. as your chicks look small you can crash peppercorns and put it in their feed.
don't vaccinate sick birds, it can only get worse. you can vaccinate any new birds in the future.
if some birds are sick probably all of them are but don't show the symptoms. we should always treat all the birds so it is safe to put antibiotics in their water.
for the ones with bubbles in the eye I would prefer baytril. antibiotics are for the secondary infections only, not pox. as @casportpony says chickens don't need antibiotics to recover from pox. you can choose to treat individually birds who seem to have other issues as well (like the one you...
good luck. but when chickens get sick they usually get more than 1 disease. tell your wife to check inside their mouth. if their is yellow staff I used q tips to push it out (be careful thay don't swallow it). I put iodine, 1 drop under the tongue to cure/prevent wet pox. dry form is outside and...
these look like dry pox but it seems you have other issues as well.
I would use baytril instead of tylan as it covers more diseases. tylan is good for MG but your chickens might have other bacteria as well. put some antibiotic ointment in their eyes so they don't get infected. I used tobradex...
my chickens looked different when they had pox. if there is an avian vet ask him. maybe more photos will help.
I hope someone else more experienced will see your post.
@casportpony are you here?
if you have cracked corn you can give them some for energy especially if it is cold. when 1 of my chickens had IB I gave her water with some honey and antibiotic (vibramycin pill - tetracycline) and she lived on that for 3 days. she was in kind of comma, eyes closed and kind of snoring. after 3...
I understand you. I lost 1 bcm, 1 salmon faverolles and 1 minorca. and I desperately wanted those breeds. still have a bcm pullet and cockerel but for the others I have to wait for the spring.
I didn't tube feed my chickens and 5 of them survived, 3 died. fermented feed will help a lot. 1 of mine looked horrible but survived. tube feed if you can those who are weak and don't eat.
when I stopped giving them antibiotics I put some limestone and iodine in their water. a drop of iodine...
