It depends on the type of plastic. I have plastic panels on my little greenhouse that is supposed to handle hail. Luckily we haven't had any hail. We cover the roof in the summer with a tarp or it can get very hot inside.

It would be nice if people who have experienced predators that have went through their chicken wire, post some pictures. It would be interesting. My opinion is that most people who use chicken wire have NOT had predators go through it. I'm sure a few people have but I seriously doubt a fox would...

I myself have never had a predator go through my chicken wire which I have had up for many years. I have replaced it because over the years it did start to break down. I also put up welded wire the last time I replaced the chicken wire. We have a lot of predators. I have had predators dig under...

Eveyone is different as well as their situations. I've had chickens for around 50 years and I still learn something new every day. I'm sure there is more to learn. Good luck and have fun...

I saw that post. I have a friend who used hardware cloth. She wasn't considering larger predators and a bear destroyed her hardware cloth enclosure. I agree it may work for some people but not everyone. Every morning I make my rounds and check on the birds. This morning I saw tracks near a coop...

I agree. If electric wire doesn't work then it's not installed properly. I had my first flock around 50 years ago. I didn't have a predator problem back then. I'm sure there were plenty around and the birds did free range and went into their coop at night. Back then my place was the only house...

My roofs are now metal. I replaced the old roofing when it started to leak and it needed replacing. No problems since, and we went through a hurricane and the roofs held good. The fence got blown over somewhat but stayed intact. I'm too old to climb up on a roof anymore. I repaired the old roofs...

My flocks have grown over the years and I have lost birds to many different predators. The electric wire helps me sleep at night unless the power goes out. Lately I have had a fox lurking during the day and at night so I have been leaving it on. I check it every evening after I collect eggs. I...

I have had just chicken wire for years but I also have electric wire around my coops and pens. I have had no issues with any predator going through the chicken wire but they have to get past the electric wire first. I did put up welded wire too because after some years the chicken wire had to be...
