    sounds like you did everything right, not sure why they didn't develop on schedule except maybe it was too many eggs. I use bantam cochins for broodies so I don't really know how many to put under a full size hen. If you try again, I'd go with a dozen and see how things go.

    I don't understand the bolded part. When a hen goes broody, they often steal other hens' eggs. Did you mark the eggs she started out with to be sure no eggs got added later? That's a common problem. How many eggs were under her? Is it possible she couldn't cover them all and they got too cold?

    We'd need a lot more info on how the eggs are being incubated--broody hen or incubator? You might also post on the incubation thread, those folks know a lot more about it than I do, I just chuck eggs under a broody hen and let her do her thing. An incubator would be seriously dangerous for me...
