5th chick dying in my hands right now - help!

I am currently talking to a breeder of Black Faverolles right now to see if I can get some of those too. She doesn't test for MG, but I would get them tested myself. Then I can have BBS Ameraucana, BBS Favaucanas and eventually when I want to separate the flocks BBS Faverolles. What a pretty...

Yay! First of the new biopsies came back all clear - in fact they got in there and decided there was NOTHING to biopsy. It was just an anomaly on the PET scan where he must have twitched. So happy! We have the second one Thursday - fingers crossed!

5th chick dying in my hands right now - help!

Geeze, does it ever let up? Our cat is gone, most likely killed by stray dogs. Checked the shelters - nothing. No chickens now of course. And today we got the news that my husbands PET scan showed new growth in his thyroid and possibly in his tongue again. The scan was Monday and Tuesday night...

5th chick dying in my hands right now - help!

Thanks for that! I was actually just thinking of doing something like that today. I like the idea of them getting out on grass right away. Making progress on the tear down, clean and rebuild. Will post pics once there is something worth seeing :)

5th chick dying in my hands right now - help!

The flock is no more, and I am gutting the coop, burning, bleaching, rebuilding and painting :( MG http://www.gapoultrylab.org/wp-content/uploads/2013/01/Mycoplasma%20handout%20for%20Backyard%20Flocks%204-12.pdf ETA Oh wow, I don't know who did it, but I just received a partial refund on my...

5th chick dying in my hands right now - help!

Kathy, if you have a minute I have a question or two for you. I know you are well read and have lots of chicken experience so I'd like your opinion. (Anyone else that wants to is more than welcome to add their 2 cents!) I am cleaning the coop out, have dismantled nearly everything so far. I am...

5th chick dying in my hands right now - help!

Today was a very hard day. I put down the whole flock with the generous help of my best friend's two oldest kids and my 8 year old son. I am so grateful for such a caring friend and her wonderful family. The meat is being provided to a family in crisis, and I have about 9 dozen beautiful rainbow...

OK, this I need to learn. You know I am going to be a nervous Nelly, LOL! Hubby is in the medical field so I am sure we should be able to figure this out....

5th chick dying in my hands right now - help!

The new babies are coming next April from Whitmore Farms. Will is excellent. He tests for about everything voluntarily. I couldn't find anyplace else like that with all my googling. If you scroll down on this page you will see what I mean. http://whitmorefarm.com/content/5063

5th chick dying in my hands right now - help!

Oh Kathy, that is so frustrating... :( I know what you mean though. So many people have no idea that "NPIP" doesn't really mean that much, etc. I didn't!

OMG! Kathy :ep I would be afraid to even buy feed there! Seems like some kind of inspector could get that shut down :/

5th chick dying in my hands right now - help!

All of the above reasons. A decision a long time coming, but a realization that it might not JUST affect me. I won't be the one that does that. While I can't control what my neighbor does I will certainly do my best to share my experience, educate and help them. I can control what I do. I can...

5th chick dying in my hands right now - help!

I put my beloved Ripley down this morning :hit I think its going to be chaotic and painful tomorrow having people over to help butcher them, so I decided I would spare her that and just take care of her myself today. I also put down Lacey and Squeaky - my two sweet little sisters :( I realized...

5th chick dying in my hands right now - help!

Thanks so much Kathy! That was the "preliminary report" although they didn't send anything else to me. What I did finally get was a phone call. They ruled out Aspergillosis, Mareks, IB and Newcastle and said the only thing of concern besides the MG was the pseudomonas aeruginosa. They said it...

5th chick dying in my hands right now - help!

Somewhere in this thread it is posted. I am not sure where. The jig is up. The new neighbors are getting chickens. No way will I expose their flock, so its time to cull the lot of them. I can't do it all at once, but it will be Spring before she gets them so I can do it a few at a time and save...

And Goosey Lucy just dropped dead in the nest box. I see she developed ascites. She never showed any external signs of MG, but I know this can occur secondary to respiratory infection.

5th chick dying in my hands right now - help!

I had to cull another tonight. Marigold had snot dripping from her nostrils tonight when I did the nightly check at roost time. I am trying the experimental colloidal silver nebulizer treatment on Lacey still. It is not something that could practically be applied to a large flock, but it would...

Oh yes. Hundreds and hundreds of dollars in diagnosis, necropsy and meds. Its MG. And tonight another off the list. Goodbye little Marigold. :(

5th chick dying in my hands right now - help!

Another name off the list today. D'uccle has never had any symptoms at all and tonight he was making popping and wheezing sounds on the roost when I went to lock them up. As I got closer I saw actual slime bubbles coming out of his throat as he was struggling to breathe. So I sent him over to...
