    Does anyone know, once a rat has eaten poison or plaster of paris, whether the killer stuff in the rat would hurt any other animal that would eat the poisoned rat? Like a bird of prey, for example. Or a dog who could catch that weakened rat -- would it be harmed?

    I've heard that rat terrier dogs are excellent rat killers and that hunt down all types of varmits. Honestly, I do not have any first hand experience with them, but I thought I'd put it out there in case you want to try it.

    You could try putting wire mesh over that dirt floor before adding the crushed rock and stuff. If you have a large rat population, you may need that extra help in keeping them outta the 2nd coop floor. At least until their population collapses.
