I had to go back and check emails from my friend who took care of the ordering. We wanted to get them from somewhere close since it was in the heat of the summer, late July. We had called around to several hatcheries in our area and ended up getting these at Cackle, that is in Missouri.
Well this was a big RIR roo. I would not say he was huge though. My hens are not real big though. I think the Delawares are far bigger than the RIR's. I also think my Barred Rocks and Black Australorps are bigger than the RIR. Mine are all hatchery birds. Possibly if you went with a non hatchery...

Well right now this Del boy and the 5 hens are my breeding stock for this year. So I won't be butchering them yet. I plan to hatch some of the eggs when they start laying and then butcher those later this year. We do eat more white meat than dark meat and I do like the big breast on this roo.

To be perfectly honest we have done Cornish Cross twice now. The birds taste great but everything else about them we hate. They are way more messy than my dual purpose birds.
What are good dual purpose breeds that make good birds to eat? Keeping in mind skin color etc. what do you recommend?
