I have decided against grass in the backyard. Going to get the pavers out, till the soil and water...give the chickens a couple weeks to work it over while I put in the new pavers, then transplant the desert shrubs from the side yard into this area. The side yard would be better suited for...

That's a great idea! I'm renting a rototiller to scratch up the whole yard good first, but the post hole thing will really help!

Hi all. Need some advice. I'm in the process of tearing out old pavers and adding new. This is along the north side of my house in the backyard and where we step out from the arcadia door. My initial plan was to replant grass along the outside edge of the walkway, but with chickens I don't think...

Yup the rosemary should be fine. Just keep an eye on it so it doesn't dry out. Anything I've tried in pots never makes it...except plumeria. But I probably don't water enough.

I used a stapler and some weed fabric. That black stuff that is supposed to block weeds from growing in areas you cover it with. Doesn't work for that but it fills in the areas between the slats and helps let the soil dry between watering. I just measured a rectangle big enough to cover bottom...

Thank you! I'm jealous of your zucchini. I haven't made it to planting beds for veggies yet but my goals are much the same as yours. I'm familiar with the fast food demon myself. No time. I have to get grass and trees planted after we r&r some pavers, then we can create our garden beds. Can't...

Recycled an old box I had magazines in. I love the wild look of these sedums. Going to paint that chicken some day.

The beginnings of a vertical succulent garden. Got a pallet when we bought pavers and I'm thinking it will go under a window on the patio.

Peek away! A lot will depend on where you move in AZ. Are you thinking the Phoenix area, Tucson, the mountains? I moved from so cal too and live in Phoenix. The soil is very different. A lot of it won't even grow weeds, it's sandy here and clay over there. Caliche can be a problem. Even if a...

Things that like acidic soil...blueberries, apple trees, artichokes. I was going to try a hugel mound out between the apple trees to prep for a guild out there. Don't want to over do it though.

Good to know! Maybe I will use the trunks and then some branches from a mesquite tree and put the needles in the compost bin instead. Thanks very much!

I have tomato cages covered in chicken wire to keep some things protected. For a wider area I put some small wooden stakes in the ground, attached chicken wire and folded it over to touch the ground. I can still water but my seedlings get a fighting chance
