Idaho Chicken Bungalow: I talked with someone at the company & I'm installing this material this a.m. I'm installing it to the ceiling of my run, stapled to the supporting beams just below. Did you ever find an answer or something suitable for your actual building? Even though their website has...

Is this what you mean by radiant barrier foam? I'm using Styrofoam in one area as a quick fix, and now I'm looking to finish or redo it properly. This is what came up when I searched "radiant barrier foam" at Lowes. What's nice is that this can be attached with adhesive right to the surface...

I'm looking at a material like that right now - foil on outside with essentially encased bubble-wrap - to put on the roof of my metal run. But the ceiling is high enough they can't peck at it. I'm checking to see if this might be just as good or better than Styrofoam.

Thank you! My metal roof is too tall for the chickens to reach while roosting. Do you know, if I do glue this radiant barrier foam to the metal roof, would i then have to install plywood or something under it (as a dropped ceiling, as it were) for it to work? Or would it work well enough alone?

The weave on the garden shade cloth is pretty tight, but by design it does let some air in. and if I sprayed a hose right on it it would let some water in. "Today" was way too ambitious. 🙄

Do you happen to know if sizable Styrofoam boards glued to the underside (using a heat-resistant product like Liquid Nails) would help? I have a metal roof on the run with nothing yet attached to insulate the underside/ the ceiling.

Does anyone know how many inches or feet from the roof the "canopy" cloth should sit to give it an adequate air pocket to work? Ok. I've got some possible ideas for creating a fast, temporary canopy on my flat-metal-roofed run Today, from materials that I already have here. I'm trying to think...

3KillerBs expressed a concern about dunking them to below the neck just before bedtime. She may be right - I'm not sure. But i found her argument compelling enough to again just dunk the feet & cup to the undercarriage and no further. Three birds I've done this with seemed to like it and they...

I've always been reluctant to give them a dish/ container with water just to stand in: I figured chances are great they'd decide to drink out of it as well. I finally caved during this heat wave.

It crossed my mind to look for one of these, but the measurements aren't the same. But, heck, let me think for a minute on how I could maybe fanagle that! Thank you!

Thank you for this information and reasoning. Well, that reading is about halfway between the floor and metal roof. Some good news is that the adjoining shingled coop, the run of which is a lot shorter in height, has never gone over 89. And again, it's less hot than that in the dirty or...

Thank you. And my thoughts are with you as this next wave comes your way!! And just before I read your message, I saw that interior temperature reading which shocked me Because... it was actually Not 104 (that was yesterday), but 109! I remembered wrong when I wrote my previous comment. And I...

Oh my gosh... 😢 The heat index reached 109 yesterday, & must be the same today if not worse. Yesterday and today the metal-roofed run reached 104° during the late afternoon! What the....??! I couldn't believe it! Thankfully they've been spending their days outside, but... And I wish I could get...

No trees at all close on that west side & too far away on the south side (the hottest sides). That's a good idea to ask. Might be a chance. Oh my gosh.

Got it. Thanks for the explanation. If I could only fit rebar tall enough into my car to put in around the structure to hold up a tarp... I've got to get really creative here...

Thanks. I've been using shade cloth for a year or so - one is dark green, which I like because it actually blocks the strong sunlight - & the other is beige. Already cut up to fit areas. I have far less of the beige than the dark green. I hang the beige cuts to cover the early sun as best I can...

I have tall, metal siding panels I was going to cut to make awnings. But it's so hot that out of desperation, I stood them up the other day and leaned them against the West side of the run where there's much too great a distance to any shade trees. Despite the fact it's metal, it lowered the...

Does anyone know if it would be a bad idea to stand each bird, one at a time, in cool water, maybe just below the neck, for a few minutes just before bed time for added relief if they seem hot? It's certainly hot enough for the feathers to dry quickly.
