    Yes, lubricant if possible. Anything you got. If it’s not actual lubricant, Vaseline would be my personal pick

    For Gerty, I put on a glove and while she was soaking, I just went for it. I would say don’t be worried about going “too far”, you should be just fine with just your fingers.

    Yes, a Tums can be used as a boost of calcium to help with the egg. Only thing is some people don’t want all the extra chemicals and ingredients they put in tums. In this situation, I wouldnt worry about the chemicals, I would just help my hen! Crushed up in yogurt can work. Also, oyster shells...

    I’m not sure about shock as much as her getting really sick, and more problems stacking on top of each other. That’s not to say her going into shock can’t happen.

    You could potentially see if she will push it out, but I would not leave it for more than a day or so longer, if possible. If it’s an egg, I highly doubt it would be attached. If it was something else (such as a tumor) it could be connected. I would highly doubt its a tumor though. Just try your...

    How is she doing? I would definitely make sure she is getting water, if not you may need to syringe feed her. I am working as a Vet Tech (hoping to make it to vet school soon!) and have worked on a case very similar to this. This is what we did for Gerty (The chicken with similar problems)...
