catching up months later to respond to this (old) post: my rooster actually has barring on his tail feathers, although it's not as complete/regular-looking as the bird in the above photo. but they are not entirely black.
love these old images -- my flock so far definitely has much too high/fan-like tails. and i do not have enough space to produce enough chicks to be a full-on breeder, but will definitely keep my small flock going, with an eye for improvement!
