How many of you are experiencing a drop in egg production?

Today I got an egg from one of my EEs! I read somewhere on here that apples stop them from laying and my hens have been eating apples. It's been several days since they've eaten one so maybe this is the reason?

How many of you are experiencing a drop in egg production?

OK. I was wrong. My BA who recently started laying is the one who's been laying the one and only egg I've been getting almost every day. So my two EEs have stopped laying all together! It's been like a week! This sucks!

How many of you are experiencing a drop in egg production?

The nights have been cold here and the chickens are more reluctant to come out of the hen house in the morning. I think the weather definitely has something to do it it. My BA just started laying two weeks ago, but I've only gotten two big eggs from her. I'll be keeping my eye on them today...

How many of you are experiencing a drop in egg production?

What age do they molt? I'm just trying to figure out if it's just the season or if something else is going on. They're acting normal and eating great, but way less egg laying.

Quote: Do you let them free range all day? Mine get to free range for two hours in the morning. I always see them return to the coop to lay.

How many of you are experiencing a drop in egg production?

Quote: That's not all that unusual. If last year was their first winter laying, they might not slow down at all; mine didn't. Now their second winter is coming and they are slowing down, right now for their molt. They are still getting plenty of greens free ranging as temps. haven't been...

My hens are only 5 1/2 months old so I don't think they are in a molt.

How many of you are experiencing a drop in egg production?

Egg production has dropped! It started last week........who else? I guess because of less daylight. It's really a bummer! My 3rd hen just started laying, but now the other two have gone from 5/ week each to every other day, or less. I already know I won't be adding lights and will allow...
