How do we manage to get into these situations? Collected another "Slightly Damaged Stray"...

That's not from being "worked". It is from being OVER-worked and UNDER-fed. Very frustrating.... I'm sure it will only take a short time for him to recover and be fat and sassy again. He is home!

I hope you were able to inform the vet how Gus came to be in his current condition. Word-of-mouth goes a long way in the horse training business, and a good vet won't ever recommend a trainer that is known to be abusive. Vets can't necessarily "trash talk" someone, but they can sure discreetly...

Is the trainer nearby? Close enough you can visit? If so, visit. Often. Without calling ahead. Other times, schedule to be there when Gus is worked. Watch the interaction between Gus and the trainer. See how the other horses react around the trainer. If you are not comfortable with how Gus is...

How do we manage to get into these situations? Collected another "Slightly Damaged Stray"...

Don't be worried about a 12-hr trailer ride. He'll do fine. I have had horses my entire life, and have moved literally all over the country with them. I've hauled across just about every state except Hawaii - even lived in Alaska. My most recent move was from Oklahoma to Maryland, about a...
