Yes there has been wonderful progress. The birds are maturing faster than the pure Faverolles, and are significantly larger when mature. I will be posting photos as soon as I get done helping my folks move from Massachusetts to North Carolina.
They have the same sire. I am going to cross the pair to see what the silver color does... but they probably will mainly be used to breed back to my best favs.
There are about 15 F2s growing out, most arte too small yet to bother with photos (I only have a very poor camera on my cell phone), but they definitely grow faster/bigger than the pure Faverolles, and the feet have been incredible. I should have a report up the end of August with photos weights...
OK it has been quite a while but the F2s are on the ground and I have a sneak peek for everyone courtesy of a friend also helping w/ the project way up in Alaska. This fine young cockerel was produced from my F1 girls covered by a pure Fav roo... long way to go, but it appears the male pattern...
Try Yellow House Farm for your stock, they are where I got the Dorkings for my first cross, and Joseph has done a great job of creating a true utility line of meat birds, while still preserving the Dorkings heritage traits. His line are extremely hardy as well, living in open sided buildings in...
this is the white roo from my project, he was the result of a White R/C dorking roo over a salmon fav hen. He will be heading to Rhode Island this weekend to hopefully help in rebuilding the white Faverolles LF variety
here he is with his 1/2 sister, she is the result of a Salon Fav...
found a cache of pictures I thought were lost, here are a few of the better looking ones
this cockerel was the only chick hatched with an ideal comb. Sadly he was cut because he never got to a good size, however he developed nicely and could pass as a pure bantam white fav.
well... thats it for now. I hope to get a few more pictures this week if the weather allows. I have not been able to track the weights the way I wanted- life just got in the way of that. However I hope to more scientific about what gets to grow up this year and have bought a postal scale to help...
OK so now I can't find the next article. It might have been on my old computer which had the hard drive fail. Regardless moving on.
these are a few of my pure hens I am posting for comparison
these are the 2 F!s that will be bred to pure Merlin and Boulanger stock this season. Both of these...
this was the first newsletter post:
Hello fellow Faverolles enthusists!
I will hopefully be writing a regular article for the newsletter for a while regarding my Faverolles X back to Dorking project. I have searched far and wide for the best possible Faverolles genetics short of importing them...
OK the first pure Rose Comb Dorking chick hatched but was culled as it had stiff legs that did not support him- have no idea if it was genetic, but it was stressing so I put it down (and yes I tried a few things to help it improve first). It was a terrible dissapointment, and I am sure it was...
Just a quick up date, they test breeding's are in the incubator and fertility looks to be a go. I will be doing a round of pedigreed pure breeding's first to have material for culling out breeding stock for next year, then I will begin the experimental matings. I hope to put the Dorking roo on...
Will do. I would post more pictures but my phone is horrible, and I can't find the stupid cord to my ancient digital camera. Won't be able to get a new one until I get my taxes back. I have only had internet access at home since December, and only just upgraded to a nice lap top 2 weeks ago...
More of Miami as requested
He was not the top dog when the flock was together and he occasionally would give Black Jack a hard time and suffer the consequences. He was eventually permitted by BJ to be his second in command and was even allowed to mate hens in BJ's presence... but not before...
