THE Brinsea Octagon 20 Eco Thread; Hatches, etc. (PICS)

That's not a dumb question at all, it's tricky. If no eggs are pipped at the end of day 19, I remove the tray and top off again. If I have to add water during the hatch, I run a straw through the air vent, place it over one well, and fill with a medicine dropper with lukewarm water

If I found a deal on a used one I would jump all over it. You don't often see them for sale, and being made of ABS plastic I wouldn't be concerned about disinfecting. They are extremely easy to clean

Really? I'm sorry, but glad Amazon is making it right

I totally agree with the lid not being on all the way. 85 degrees wouldn't kill the chicks. A spike would, but not a drop. At 85 degrees, it makes me think the heater was working hard to warm up, that's why it was loud. Did you check to see that the lid was on right, and if so did it settle down?

X2 This is exactly what I was going to say. Sounds like the lid wasn't settled properly. I'd bet money on it. Brinsea doesn't have temperature swings like that

Ok, 99.5-99.9? Now don't touch it any more :smack Once you get to know me, you'll know that's a sign of my acceptance :gig

I have better hatches near 100.0 than I do at 99.0. You will drive yourself crazy chasing minute adjustments. Like WV said, the average temp is the goal, and those minor swings as the heating element pulses are not a big deal at all. If your average is between 99.5 and 100.0, I wouldn't touch it

This is the PM I sent Fishnet, just in case anyone else is experiencing the same thing: Totally normal. You are right, the temperature fluctuates as the incubator rolls back and forth. Fresh air is drawn in through the bottom, so there is always cooler air being drawn in, and it swirls around...

It will run louder while the heating element is on and the incubator is warming up. It quiets down once it reaches temperature I sent you a PM, but I'll copy and paste it here when I get to the PC. What you are describing is perfectly normal and nothing to worry about

You are the second person that I have heard that is disappointed with the 20 after moving up from the mini. It's going to show a mild variation in temperatures because of how air is drawn in and circulated. Don't stress yourself by moving eggs around, it's not necessary. I also rotate my tray...
