Advice for weak underweight 5 y/o chicken possibly with worms

@casportpony , @enola , @kharmon320 , thank you all for your very kind words. My head knows we did our best but other parts of me don't always listen to reason. Sigh. It's just been hard to lose four of our babies this year on top of all the other things we have to deal with. I thought our...

Advice for weak underweight 5 y/o chicken possibly with worms

@casportpony , @enola : Thank you both, especially you Kathy, for all your wonderful help. Sadly, I found Princess dead in her crate when I went to weigh and feed her a few minutes ago. Hubby said he had a bad feeling last night. I'm trying not to beat myself up too much, we tried but I suspect...

Advice for weak underweight 5 y/o chicken possibly with worms

ok i'm back from oahu (yay surgery was success!). Hubby did a good job of taking care of Mom and of Princess. Here is his status report for the day: - 0800AM weight 1.913kg/4lb3-3/8oz - crate poop looks like normal poop - checked crop, mostly empty (YAY) and squishy - gave one mashed egg and...

Advice for weak underweight 5 y/o chicken possibly with worms

1800, got another 20cc into her. Edit: 1930, got a final 15cc for the day into her crop. She'd put herself to bed, walked from 2 ft away from the dog crate and tucked herself into the back of it. Yay! I felt bad waking her up but better for her I guess.

Advice for weak underweight 5 y/o chicken possibly with worms

@casportpony 1645, got 20cc into her, and her crop is definitely going down now. Can I get away with feeding her a mashed egg now or should I only keep on with another 2 batches of water before I put her to bed?

Advice for weak underweight 5 y/o chicken possibly with worms

1515PM got 15cc of h2o into her this time. She also made a normal poop on the towel and was walking around a little on top of the washing machine, which let me finally get a quick look at her rear end. I don't see any lesions or anything but pink skin and poopy feathers. the vent looks clear...

Advice for weak underweight 5 y/o chicken possibly with worms

Well, he used to raise pigeons eons ago so he's familiar with tubing and such, but with him being under the weather. Ugh. Everything always has to happen at the same time. Darn you, Murphy!

Advice for weak underweight 5 y/o chicken possibly with worms

ok, that's what I just did, 10cc 100F water. No throwing up this time, and I made sure that I wasn't "assisting" that by the way I was holding her to transfer :) I also snuck in another dusting by dusting the towel I wrap around her. Darn thing was a bit buggy. It feels like I'm getting better...

Advice for weak underweight 5 y/o chicken possibly with worms

Ok thanks. I've taken away the small tray of pellet mash. Does tubing 10cc of water every 45-60 minutes seem reasonable? Should I add a spot of sugar as well or no need at this point?

Advice for weak underweight 5 y/o chicken possibly with worms

@casportpony Hi Kathy, quick question about tubing water. If her crop is full but nicely squishy, should I be trying to tube more water or just let her be? I've tubed water twice this morning, but every time I check her crop is still full but not hard/firm/tight, it feels squishy/mushy. I am...

Advice for weak underweight 5 y/o chicken possibly with worms

I just checked her on the way downstairs and she had a little puddle in front of her, maybe a teaspoon or two. is that ok?

Advice for weak underweight 5 y/o chicken possibly with worms

It felt a bit firm to me, tight, like a balloon. We gave her 5cc water to see. Hub thought it felt more mushy after. She regurgitated a tiny bit as I was transferring her down off the table, but hasn't done that again since. She was wobbly for a bit afterwards but seems to have gotten her legs...

Advice for weak underweight 5 y/o chicken possibly with worms

@casportpony sigh, now I have the opposite problem from yesterday. I haven't been able to do any tube feeding because her crop has been full all day. It's now 1545 and she hasn't touched the pellet mash I gave at 1330, and her crop still feels full. She seems to be smart enough to not touch...

Here's an update for today: 0800AM: - weighed, 1.999kg (4lb 6.5oz). - her crop was still pretty full though not tight, gave her mashed eggs-n-water to pick on, about 100g. - overnight poop, as of 8:30AM: - poop while nibbling on eggs, about 9:30AM: 1130AM: - gave about 90g of pellet mash...

Advice for weak underweight 5 y/o chicken possibly with worms

YES! And in no small way thanks to all your help. I'm not relieved yet, but I am certainly super hopeful, which is more than I can I felt a couple days ago! Fingers crossed that she continues in this line!

Ok we'll see how it goes tomorrow. She's chowing down on another 1/4c of pellet mash at the moment. How early should I start tomorrow morning? 6AM? 7AM? Daylight?

Advice for weak underweight 5 y/o chicken possibly with worms

I just weighed her 10 minutes ago and she weighed 2.055kg (4lb 8.5ozs), and just polished off a second egg. Today I gave her: 30cc 1:3 kaytee:water about 8am, 30cc sugar-water about 10am, 1/4c pellets about noon, a chopped egg about 3pm, 1/4c pellet mash about 4pm, and another egg at 5pm. Her...

Advice for weak underweight 5 y/o chicken possibly with worms

Ok, I'll put a little dish of pellet mash near her as well, probably 1T of pellets at a time and discard each time. It's 85F outside right now so I'm sure it will go off quickly. So at the moment, I have the options of: 1) kaytee tube fed, 2) mashed boiled egg, 3) pellet mash, and 4) plain...
