I read somewhere if you see yellow fluid come out of the bird when you butcher it you should throw it out. Does anyone know what this is and why it is bad to eat. I am getting ready to butcher four of my cornishes and am curious about this. I haven't ever had this problem but I have only butchered one before so not much experience yet. Just really would like to know what causes this. I come from a family of hunters and we never ate any animal that was sick so I know not to, still would like to know what causes this. Does anyone know?

I've ate one with this problem and they tasted fine.... Basically all it is, is a heart attack in progress. The bird will get fluid, along with a purlple head, labored breathing (heavy panting with eyes closed) and also they become lethargic as well.

I would advise catching it early and processing that day so less fluid will be in the cavity if any. It takes them a good 4-5 days to die if you can catch onto the signs.

Labored breathing is always first and the easiest to catch. Usually a 12 hour on and 12 hour off schedule takes care of this.

Good luck.
