Are silkie eggs harder to hatch than other breeds? Opinions please...

I don't know how a Silkie can ever have a fertile egg..I have a little white Silkie that has been laying eggs, but the Silkie rooster keeps toppling off her every time he tries to romance her. He has a really tough time romancing any of the little Silkie hens I have. He tries constantly, but seems to just keep falling off. It's very funny, but I still feel sorry for him.

Yes...I've wondered the same thing...especially for roos that are a little on the small side. You can put a cloth "saddle" on your hen that has "toe grips" on the sides. I guess sort of like a stirrup...

I've had mostly good luck with silkies and sizzles here, all of them shipped. I have seramas in now, deep breath, so far nine of 12 look good.

The only time I had poor hatches there were other disasters - power outtages/spikes, or the entire shipped batch was mostly turned to scrambled in transit.

i really hope i have no problem with hatching my silkie eggs and cochin eggs and naked necks lol i just dont want any more problems. none of my eggs hatched last time and im praying this time ill get something i think my broody stepped off a few to many times.

I had that same rate (lost 3 out of 31), but 15 karate-chopped out and were ready to go, and the other 13 did nothing. Nada! All looked great on day 18.

Never can tell! Of those 15, btw, two white ones just started gasping at 2 days old and passed quickly. I hope I don't lose any more!

I have some nice buff silkie eggs coming today and I'm going to put some of them under my black broody silkie hen. Shoot, she can't have a worse hatch than I've been having in the incubator.

I think I posted earlier that I left the red plugs out and enlarged the vent holes toward the bottom of the hovabator.

Hopefully that will make a positive difference.
