i got one in the bator now. hatched out two silkie batches using it. both times they pipped on day 18. i feel like 99.5 inside the egg temp may just be a tad on the warm side, being they pipped on day 18. although some on here say bantams sometimes hatch early. i have full size eggs in now so time will tell if they hatch early. otherwise i like it alot. my next thermometer i buy will be the spot check by brinsea. very very accurate. i am planning to lockdown on day 17 just in case these are early. i hatch in the egg cartons also. as long as you have 24 or less eggs in. otherwise its to crowded in there for them to get out and move around without getting stuck. mine is a hova bator. i hope this helps.
 
Yes, I have been using the Egg-O-Meter, and I really like it. It has eased my mind more than once when the air temp changed while turning, adding water, etc. It showed that the internal temp of the egg doesn't change as rapidly as the air. I also like the alarm feature. I set it to let me know if the temp goes down to 99 or up to 101. It also keeps a record of the high & low temp the egg has reached throughout incubation. For under $20, I have been pleased with how it works.
 
I made my own, but it just backs up my Spot Check.

well i bought one and it came in yesterday. i set it up like the instructions say, but the alarm keeps going off. i have 3 thermometers in one incubator. my other digital thermometer says 105.0 when the egg-o-meter barely reaches 99.0. can anyone help me on this. which one do i listen to? the 3rd is just a factory thermometer.

I'd love to know that myself melissa. I've got an eggometer too as well as digital and standard thermometers and all of them are telling me something different. I would think the eggometer would eventually read close to the air temp if it was constant.

According to the specs on the egg-o-meter "Temperature reading is precise down to a 1/10 of a degree (0.1 degree)" I would have to trust it the most.
