I want to start a La Fleche thread so all of my Black La Fleche pictures and information can be placed into one thread.

They will be 2 weeks old in a couple of days so I will post a picture of them then.

I moved them to their outside heated brooder pen today. They are very happy with all the room they have now.

Can't wait to see them at 2 weeks and on forth. I've always loved the fact that there is someone around trying to get a focus on such rare breed. Too bad only hatcheries have them. . . And too bad it is even hard to find pics of them from breeders in EU. Feathersite is always there to help though.

Hi Illia

Looking at how they are feathering out it looks like I will have around 10 males and 10 females. I had posted in a earlier theard there were no single combs. Well I was a little wrong there combs are getting more noticeable and there is no single combs but there are 2 of them that has what looks to be a divided single comb ( somewhat close to a Buttercup comb ). Out of 20 only 2 with bad combs is not to bad. My brother has already ask me could he have them to add with his mix flock of odd chickens. So as of right now it looks like I will have 9 males to pick from. The best 2 males will be in the breeding pens.

Well, I just hope you wait until they're truly old enough to judge for culling, giving away, or selling.

Have you looked around for other hatcheries with them? It is always good to get from different hatcheries as their stock can vary. I don't know who else has them though. . Perhaps Murray McMurray.

The only hatcheries I know of that has the La Fleche breed is Ideal Poultry, Sand Hill Preservation Center, and Stromberg's. I culled out 4 weak ones in the first week, the rest look to be very healthy. The 2 with bad combs will go soon as possible and the rest of the males I will hang on to as long as possible, keeping the best 2 ( 1 for breeding pen #1 and 1 for breeding pen #2 ). I will try to keep all of my hens only culling one if it is far from the Standard.

Hi

My La Fleche chicks will be 3 weeks old next week so I will post a few picture of them then. Today I noticed a few to about half of them having a few small feathers sprouting off the top of their head. I am very happy with this as this is a common trait in the La Fleche breed.
