Hatcher vs Incubator

I think the reason that so many people use separate hatchers (or, me at least) is because they have staggered hatches going on, or because they want to clear out incubator space and get that three day extra head start on the next batch of eggs.

The only real advantage, if you have a forced air incubator, might be having a still-air hatcher so it's easier to keep humidity up.

Whenever I can, I don't move them - I just hatch them wherever they've been incubated.

Its cleaner too. If you just use one then you have to get it spotless before the next hatch. If you fail you have about 20 days the next eggs will sit in there an could pick up bacteria. On the other hand if you use 2 an you fail to get all the gunk clean in the hatcher then the next eggs are ready to hatch when they are put in the dirty environment. No time to go bad. An think how much more time you have to get them clean.

I just got a used Dickey cabinet bator. It has insane capacity and will be perfect for ongoing staggered hatches. Plan to do my incubation until lockdown in that unit and finish in a Suro 20 or Brinsea for optimal humidity control and fun watching. Also the smaller plastic bators are really easy to clean for the next hatch.
