Incubating cracked eggs

I have waxed an egg which I originally thought was simply a little dented (about 6mm accross). On checking tonight to see if its fertile, it indeed is, the tell tale spider is taking form. However, teh cracks are MUCH bigger than I thought. From the dent, stress cracks are running almost top to bottom, and around nearly half the egg. Plus, another spot at the air cell end on the other side. Think it was probably trodden on. Now, if it was one of mine, ok, in the bin it goes. BUT it's a silver laced brahma. I REALLY want it, the other four are intact, but the shells are a little speckled so hard to tell yet if fertile or not. I have waxed over most of the one side of the egg, and put a dab over the tiny crack on the other side. What's the chances of this hatching? I know I'll probably have to help it out when it tries to zip. The wax won't be good for it, even if it can get out. I'm also not sure it can exchange gases well enough during incubation with a crack this big. Will try to get candling pics when I candle them all on day 6. Omg, what am I letting myself in for?

I recently successfully hatched a waxed egg so don't give up hope. However, I did wax three that developed for a while and then quit. My suggestion is to get some liquid bandage and paint the cracks with 2 layers of the liquid. Try to only cover the crack and make sure the egg still has plenty of surface area to breath. All the cracked area needs to be covered.

I had 2 in my incubator that cracked and I tossed them not wanting to take a chance on them exploding in my incubator. I never thought about waxing the egg cracks. The eggs were a Delaware and a Turken. They too were fertile.

I have hatched wax eggs. I will tell you it is a major pain getting that where you need it. I tried the nailpolish and that egg quit, I wouldn't do it again as my thought is if it smells that bad it can't be good. I have resorted to using elmer's glue. It's non-toxic and very easy to apply and so far I have had 2 hatch and 1 in the bator with the glue. I put the light(candler) on so I can see the cracks and then I apply a light coat to the cracks. I will glue every cracked one I get unless the air cell is blown. I haven't had any have a hard time breaking through it either, but I also haven't had it oth sides but if I did I would just scrape some off when it pipped....

I think I'll have to knock off most of the wax at pipping time alright. If I do it at day 18 it won't need to zip, if the chick stretches, the egg will simply fall apart. Fingers crosed it gets that far!! Will try to scrape off some excess wax tonight, I kinda covered it last night and put it back before it got too cool.
