Chicks are 48 hours old now. We lost two from the shipment on the first night, apparently just from stress. Two chicks were pasted up in the morning and I soaked their booties with a warm wet cloth and managed to loosen most of the poo though but I think they lost some down in the process, but their skin looks healthy and fine. Oh I tried to be sooooo gentle.... Then some glycerine to help heal and keep poo from sticking. One of them was pasted up again this evening and I noticed her vent is sort of pulsing a bit of bloodiness in and out. Hard to describe. What should I do to help her? Will different food help? Both of the little things seem alert and running around and seriously nuts over boiled egg...
Oh am I so worried about these tiny things...

Make sure it is definitely blood. The little chicks do poo out a deep brownish red poo that is completely normal. Then there is the no mistaken blood, which you will need to treat them for.

Not to sound gross but do you have a picture?

Oh boy...I don't have any experience with this but I seem to remember reading somewhere about a light coating of vaseline on their butt to keep from pasting up. As far as the blood, if she seems fine otherwise, they heal and grow so fast at that age I think your main concern is to keep the other chicks from pecking at her. A red light can help that, they don't notice the blood so easily. I sure hope someone else checks this out.

It sure looks like blood, but even more like sort of her insides poking out...
I took a pic but now am trying to figure out how to post it!

You asked for it. Close up of sick chick butt. Help?

I see what your talking about... It does look like it's protruding a bit... I hope someone else answers because I have never seen that before. Best of luck to you and your chickie
