I have searched here and google...I have read everything from it will produce an F1 Production Red...Have no idea what F1 means...I'm guessing First Generation; to a Red Sex Link...if the leghorn is Silver dominant. And alot in between. I have alot of learnin' to do! Silver dominant?

Anyway, what will happen if those two are crossed RIR roo x Wht Leghorn Hen? Will they lay white or brown eggs? Or is it possible to predict that? I am guessing they will be strong layers.

Thanks for your time and input

I don't know if you have seen this thread. The first post gives a lot of good information on sex links. You might find it helpful.

F1 means first generation cross.

I think the odds of the white leghorn having the silver is pretty low. That solid white comes from totally different genes. Silver might be there, but I don't think so. There are people on this forum that can give a much more definitive answer on that than me. Hopefully they will see this and respond. But if the silver is there, this cross would make a red sex link, regardless of the other white genes. The RIR does not have those white genes.

There are several different genes that influence the egg color. I'd certainly expect brown eggs from that combination, but I'm not sure what the shade would be.

The only thing I am fairly sure of is that you could expect strong layers.

Thanks guys!

I can't wait to get home tonight to read that other post on sex links...I can't believe with all the searching I did and posts read, that I did not come across that one! Looks like good stuff. Thanks!
Sometimes I read for a couple hours at a time, put the iPad down and realize that I am more confused than when I started reading! LOL

Crossing a R.I.Red Rooster over a White Leghorn Hen would most likely result in the offspring being White with some Gold leaking in the Hackles and Saddles also the males might have some Gold in there Wing Bay.

I have read everything from it will produce an F1 Production Red.

Yes they will be a F1 Production Red (F1 = First Generation)
