Reviving an old thread i know, however here is my picture:

Coryza? my quail are on turkey rearer 24% which includes a coccidiostat, so i had thought it may be an eye infection or another type. Shes opening her eye a touch. Cull her, cull the entire flock, or treat? If treating is an option any home remedies as its a saturday.

Well my last female quail finally succumbed to MG (Coryza) after battling the infection for weeks. I did everything I could, giving her Baytril, applying antibiotic ointments, feeding manuka honey, and draining the mucous that would fill the left side of her face to bursting, wasting hours of my life and torturing the poor bird. To everyone pushing back against experienced BYCers advising to immediately cull... please stop. That’s what I should have done, but didn’t have the stomach for it and she suffered as a result. Now I have an exposed, but seemingly uninfected male (her mate, The Dude) and I don’t know what to do with him. Gave her a viking burial yesterday and planning to destroy the contaminated coop as well. Will have a new coop built for the next batch of quail and will keep The Dude isolated. Horrible.

Sorry for your loss. :hugs

Question: Why is Mycoplasma gallisepticum (MG) being called coryza? Are they not two different things? So far coryza seems to be a bacterial infection in chickens, while MG is a mycoplasma in many species? I ask this because I am trying to do more research on this for keeping quail, but things don't seem to be adding up..
