Got Our First Duck

Okay, I admit it. I'm like Charlie Brown. I feel sorry for the Christmas trees that are left in the lot after Christmas.

Today I went to the place where I've bought all our chickens to look at ducks. They only had one, a Khaki Campbell hen and she had a broken leg. She looked so lonely, and quacked so mournfully when I walked up to her cage that I bought her anyway and brought her home. She's in a small cage with food and water, and seems happier, anyway. The chickens are already clucking, hopefully to welcome her.

From everything I've read here there's a good chance she'll heal on her own, given time and make a good addition to the flock.

YAY! so glad you got a duck! Just make sure she has clean, fresh water, and also make sure she has clean bedding at all times. and make sure her food is always full. Praying that your duck makes it!!!!!!!

Good luck with your duck!

Good luck with your new girl. Very nice of you to help her. Just keep her quiet and give her time to heal.

Does she have a splint on? Did the people you got her from tell you how long ago the injury occured?

I checked Storey's Guide and it says 14-28 days for the bones to mend.

We have a very nice Khaki Campbell hen with a crippled leg. She just kinda bounces along following the other ducks, and doesn't seem to be bothered by her condition. So, if your gal doesn't fully recover, she can have a good life anyway

Er, it's an inside joke...
I remember you from the Easy Garden, where I go by an alias.
