Hi everyone,

We are thinking of buying some Peafowl for our farm. But are afraid of one thing, will they scratch up the cars? We board some horses at our place, so people do come out and park here. Can these beautiful birds damage any ones cars? We really would like to get some, not just for their beauty, but we are hoping they will help with keeping the fly population and other bugs down.

Has anyone had any bad experiences with their cars getting scratched up?
Thanks!

I can relate to this question and have two examples of what i've experienced,,,bought a nice black 2002 Chervrolet 2500HD pickup,,drove the wifes car to work one day and came home with my wife and neighbor trying to get a 4 year old male India Blue off the hood of my truck!!!!!!!! Neighbor lived 1/8 mile away but his Peacock decided to take an afternoon flight to our place and decided the top of my pickup truck would give him a better view,,he was on the hood and then tried to fly or walk up the window to get on the roof,,well his long toenails scratched my black paint all over,,next story comes from a guy south of me where I bought a lot of Peacock eggs from 2 years ago,,his wife has a beauty salon in their country home,,a lady came for her hair appointment in her brand new Cadillac Deville,,bright red was the color,,when she was finished she came outside to leave and 2 peacocks was on her car,,had scratch marks on the hood and roof which cost my friend more than $1500 to have buffed and resprayed on one spot where the toenails went deep into the paint.

Hmm....Well seeing as some peafowl scratch up vehicles and others don't....I would maybe put a tarp or something over your vehichle to keep it safe from their claws. Then if you have a garage try and put the most prized vehicle in there. Although I don't know what you would do for guests....Maybe just give them a tarp to put over their vehicle...

We don't have a ton of guests most of the time but if you have company over a lot I could see it becoming a problem maybe.

I never had a problem until this year. Bought a new car and my male does NOT like it and has attacked it on several occasions. I find if I park it further away from the house, he tends to leave it alone. None of my others have hopped on the car or taken up issue with it.

Our zoo used to have free roaming peacocks, and they would attack the visitor's cars. Yes, they did scratch up the bumpers and paint of the cars. The zoo was confident the damage could be easily buffed out. Unfortunately, predators finally took care of all the birds. I miss seeing them around the zoo.

That is my biggest fear, also. I want my peas to free range, except at night. My daughter says she is lucky her's are happier in her back yard with all the trees. One day Mr. Pea wondered up front and roosted on her Cadilac. He put plenty of scratches on it. He almost was done in over that. My husband comes unglued if a cat walks on his hood. I also have a new car, black shows scratches so easy. Maybe everyone will just have to learn that their vehicles belong in the garage not parked in front of my flower beds, ha. Better paint sign Park at your own risk Peacocks on Guard, before they start roaming. At least my neighbors live at leat 2 miles away on all sides.

Okay, I can say first-hand that peacocks CAN leave permanent scratches in cars.

Morrison, my only male (he's black-shoulder) has taken an extreme disliking to my new car, maybe b/c it's so shiny and my last one wasn't. I tried chasing him away many times, threw tennis balls and rocks at him

but his hormones wouldn't give and today I noticed a gash in the paint, a few mm's thick on the bumper, no way it's coming out. Haven't even made first payment on the car

. I'm not going to tell you what went through my mind right then when I saw the scratch.

I won't get rid of Morrison and I hate to see him cooped so I'm giving in and buying a car cover. I've had him since he was 3 months old, he is 4 yrs old now so I can't give him up.
